OVCAS Basic Custodial Service Levels
FY26 service levels
On July 1, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services began transitioning its basic service levels for custodial services.
The cleaning frequencies depicted below serve as a guide to determine staffing levels. Our desired outcome is to collaborate with your facility representatives to develop customized building cleaning schedules and frequencies informed by occupancy and utilization, balanced with the available staffing.
In emergency situations, such as floods or infrastructure-related events, Facilities Management (FM) will provide additional cleaning services as needed to support necessary remediation efforts as part of its basic service. In such cases, FM is not responsible for the costs of repairing or replacing damaged furniture, equipment or personal items.
The transition is expected to continue through the first two quarters of FY26, and we will provide periodic updates.
If your department requires a higher level of service, please submit a billable work order or request a memorandum of understanding to outline the upgraded services to be provided.
The guide to determine FY26 custodial service staffing levels is based on the tasks listed below. FM employs two shifts for custodial workers. On the first shift, the focus is on ensuring that highly utilized spaces are presentable and remain ready for daily activities. This includes frequent spot cleaning and restocking of supplies in restrooms, entryways, lobbies, and main corridors. Second shift services include all the comprehensive and detailed cleaning tasks like wall-to-wall vacuuming, mopping, and floor scrubbing, which are best performed when spaces are relatively empty.
